Cramer Hill resident association
In 2003, the City of Camden was introducing the concept of eminent domain abuse or the taking of properties for public use. A few of us residents of Cramer Hill understood this to mean that our homes would be taken for an 18-hole golf course, marinas, fancy mansions, et cetera. As a result of the fear, we created this 2004 service organization, Cramer Hill Residents Association Inc or CHRA.
We gathered 850 signatures throughout our neighborhood. We bussed to Trenton -- to no avail. Off to the U.S. Supreme Court, we, as an amicus case, witnessed with the KELO folks of New London Connecticut that the states were to decide the use of eminent domain. Shortly after thousands of taxpayer money by the City in 2009, we won the right to remain in our homes by a technicality in our favor. Since then, that threat has morphed into an unfairly increased property tax hike from 2% to over 26% in many lots.
Today, in 2019, Cramer Hill is blessed with an opportunity to help its public housing community improve its housing stock. We are developing a modified plan of the Tomorrow Plan of 2009. Many meetings have brought out residents and businesses to state ideas and suggestions of wants and needs to this area. We have also worked on various pro-pride projects. One example is the LOGO Contest among all of the schools of this city section. Veterans Memorial Family School, Harry Sharp School and St. Anthony of Padua School have contributed to this contest. Soon you will be seeing banners coloring our streets.

PETTY'S ISLE & CHRA & PHILLY SKYLINE
If you take a tour on Petty's Island at the end of 36th Street and the Delaware Channel, you will be able to read a placard about the war against eminent domain abuse that CHRA won to save that island from investor's destroying an eagle's nest and making another golf course. It will soon become a nature reserve for visiting. Pet Star is admiring Petty's Island on the Cramer Hill side.
