IT IS ABLETT'S MAKEOVER TURN
For decades, Ablett Village has been dreading the possibility of a makeover. They feared that neighbors will be tossed out into the boonies and not allowed to return. Well, times have changed and better considerations are on the table.
In 2017, HUD D.C. invited state housing corporations to apply for a substantial grant amount to address dilapidating and ancient housing stock. Cramer Hill's Housing Authority of Ablett Village filled it out and was not accepted at first. One last try in 2018 brought the eyes of federal grantors to Ablett's plea for help. This is called the CHOICE NEIGHBORHOODS IMPLEMENTATION GRANT 2019. Millions are on the table for Ablett Village and the Cramer HIll section of Camden as partners. Both must comply with the specifications before deadlines. This drawing is the desirable rendition of the New Ablett.
The new structures will include residency for the elder, for small and large families but in an updated version, and a central park/community center. To accommodate displacement, infill houses will be constructed throughout Cramer Hill for only Ablett residents until the project is completed. Then they will be allowed to return or to stay in their then present homes with Section 8 vouchers.
Other additions to the community will be allowed through this grant, such as a Senior building, new fire house, money for fixing existing houses, and other suggestions that community folks brought.
